Reading Response: Brave New World 2

Why is it ironic that the character John is called John the Savage? Explain fully.

  1. John the Savage is a ironic name because he lived at the Savage Reservation his whole life. He was called the Savage because he tried to sabotage the people in the society.

    John is the only character in the book born naturally from a mother. He was not born in a laboratory from a test-tube procedure. John maintains a mother-son relationship with his mother. John is called "the Savage" because he was not living in the civilized world, but on the "Savage Reservation." John is called a savage in Brave New World because he rejects the society's values and prefers to live as people did in older times.
