What Causes Change?

Read 168 - 169 in your textbook. Then ponder the industrial changes that sparked growth in America. Specifically, what components of the Industrial Revolution shaped the nineteenth century?

In a second paragraph, after careful consideration, ponder the changes of the late twentieth and early twenty-first century. What technological changes have shaped and changed our society? How? In a third paragraph (or more), address the question of how the changes have affected not only society, but the individual.

  1. The Industrial Revolution shaped the nineteenth century by introducing hundreds of new factories to the United States. This employed thousands and thousands of jobs for everyone. This began a significant economical change, ultimately transforming American society.
A technological change in the twentieth century that has shaped our society is the creation of GPS. Now, no matter where you are, you can always find your way home. It has saved many lives, and will continue to do so. Another technological change is the invention of mp3 players. If you think about it pretty much every teenager now has an mp3 player of some sort.
These changes both have affected society and the individual. GPS can get you somewhere faster if you are traveling on the road. You will not make a wrong turn. It can even take you a back way around traffic saving you more time. If your lost in the woods with no food, it can save your life.
The mp3 player has affected society by landing in almost every teenager’s hand. Everyone can listen to the music they like when they like, with no skipping. For some their music reflects their belief.

  2. The Industrial Revolution was of great importance when it comes to how it sparked growth in America. The industries were booming, but they were only booming in a good way for certain people. Machines replaced skilled workers, and factories in general put home-based workshops out of business. Factories hired women and children to work in dangerous conditions for a lower pay than the average male would receive; however, in the future, child labor laws would be passed banning children from working in these harsh conditions. Since the factories were able to produce more goods in a shorter amount of time because of machines, they not only shipped their products locally but also nationwide. This, as well as immigration, was made possible by the new expanding methods of transportation. The steamboat and railroads were invented in the Nineteenth Century, and roads and canals were spreading across the country, providing better and easier means of getting from one place to another. The Civil War would happen soon as a result of the disputes between the North and the South occurring during this time frame. Many Idealistic Americans also created Reform Movements to improve American Society. These Reform Movements included: the abolition of slavery, the stop of unhealthy consumption of alcohol, securing women’s rights, providing better care for the mentally ill, and improving prison living conditions.

Technology has certainly had its ups and downs when it comes to affecting our society today. Computers in every household and twelve year-olds with cell phones are not as absurd as it was earlier in the century. These things have definitely taken an unfortunate dramatic toll on our communication skills. Now that we don’t talk to people in person as much as text them, we find it harder to talk to someone outside of texting them. We no longer have to look anything up or remember the things we’ve learned; everything we ever need to know is on the World Wide Web.

Technological advances are wounding our once acceptable communication skills. Slang and abbreviations make it harder for us as individuals to speak to adults without confusing them. In society as a whole, technology is slowly diminishing our abilities to do things for ourselves. If our computer system was to crash, many people would be out of their jobs, and we would all be lost with no clue how to do anything. We are so dependant on things such as computers and cell phones that without them we wouldn’t know how to survive.

  3. The Industrial Revolution of the United States was an offspring of Brittan’s Industrial Revolution that began in the mid-1700s. The revolution brought many factories into the North which caused most people migrate to large cities. Two inventions contributed to the expansion of the United States greater than any others: the steamboat and the railroad. With the steam boat people could travel up and down rivers quicker than ever. Being able to travel the rivers faster helped bring in goods to places where months were taken off the delivery time. Workers built railroads left and right. Richer families could hope on railroads for family vacation, where poorer families would jump trains to move.
In recent years we have under gone many technological changes. The invention of the cell phone was revolutionary for everyone. At first they were bricks that only certain people could afford and they did not get could service. Now days you can perchance a cell phone for a reasonable price the size of a potato chip and you can call someone around the world while you’re on the internet. Another invention was the DVD player. You can’t even buy VHS anymore. Today the ecosystem is a huge deal to most people. Luckily you get buy a hybrid car. Hybrids save gas and the Ozone layer.
Today’s inventions affect the individual as well as society. One of these inventions would have to be the lap top. Having a lap top expands the world into your hands. A person can get their degree online. Some people even meet their true love online. Some lap tops can help musical artist make and record their music. Lap tops are an invention targeted towards the individual.

  4. There are many components of the Industrial Revolution that shaped the nineteenth century. In the nineteenth century using hand tools was then upgraded to machinery. Unskilled labor workers got jobs where they didn’t have to be skilled or educated to know how to work machinery. Basically all they did for their job was press a button a “BAM” the job’s done. Because of this skilled labor workers lost their jobs to unskilled labor workers. Sectional Strife played a nig role in shaping the nineteenth century as well. With the increase in technology some parts of the US benefited more than others. An example is North and South. The North had a larger population which is a big reason why the north also had larger factories. A larger population meant more workers to be able to run the larger factories. However, the south was less fortunate. The south had a small population which led to little factories with few workers. As a result the North and South split which eventually in the future leads to war. The Age of Reform was also a major component in the nineteenth century.

The changes that happened in the nineteenth century still affect how we live today. As the years have past our technology has grown tremendously. This is a great reason why people are how they are today. Our technology is constantly changing and increasing. It’s making work easier and effortless that people start to become lazy. In the old days people had to start from scratch and do all the work their selves. But now we have it all given to us on a silver platter. Not only does an increase in technology make our society seem lazy it also affects people in the society as an individual.

The components of the indusrtial revolution that helped shape the nineteenth century were the tremendous economic growth and transformation of the American society. Hundreds of new factories were built giving many people the opportunity to earn more money than they had ever earned before. New roads and canals united different sections of the country. This helped make areas more accessible and allowed goods to be moved more quickly between locations.
One of the most techological changes was the invention of the computer/internet. Not only did the computer change the way of doing business but because of the internet businesses are able to communicate with other companies and conduct business activities with businesses in other countries, making their products accessable to all parts of the world.
The individuals have been affected by being able to access goods from all over the world. People are no longer limited by location. Goods can be bought and purchased from any where in the world.

  6. In the early 1800's America was going through a change known as the industrial revolution. Hundreds of factories were built, travel routes were expanded, and transportation was revolutionized. America's economic response to this was outstanding, with the employment of unerskilled migrants and children being added to the paylist, giving everyone a chance to support their family.

From the late 20th century to the early 21st century, the same brand of changes were made, only to a different level. Factories expanded even more and everything was made automatic and mechanical, putting factory workers out of a job.

Individuals of each new-coming era saw the positive and negative sides of these changes. On the plus, because things were made quickly and cheaply, the finished product itself was cheaper. On the other hand, however, what good was it for items to be cheaper if that which made them cheaper put you out of a job and so far into poverty that you can't even afford them at their "magically" reduced price? None whatsoever is the answer to that question. Its a shame, but life moves on and we continue to grow and develope from this despite it all.

  7. The Industrial Revolution has shaped the United States of America in a huge way. Manufacturing shifted from skilled workers to unskilled workers using complex machines. Factories replace home-based workshops. Manufacturers sold goods nationwide instead of locally. Two very important inventions were the steamboat and railroad.

Technological changes were probably the biggest changes to the world. One of the biggest changes was communications. Cell phones and e-mail has made communicating with other people easier then it was in the 1800s. Technological changes have also been big in the manufacturing fields. Things have become safer and made things quicker with new technology.

The changes have not also been big for the world. These changes were and still are for us individuals. It uses to take people forever to communicate with others. It uses to be where you would have to either visit them or send them letters by mail. The manufacturing part has been made a less risk of injury or death then back in earlier times. Also, the method of transportation has changed by the advances of cars and other forms of transportation.

  8. When we think of America today, we think of booming industries and technology, however, it was only at the beginning of the 19th century that all of this started. No longer were we a country based on raw goods and farming but we could now manufacture our own finished products rather than having to import them. This was all made possible by a surplus of genius that came about in this time period. Factories that used assembly lines made it possible for us to become truly industrialized. This gave rise to the common man having money rather than only the wealthy land owners. People were now able to afford luxuries, which in turn, made America a vast market of buying and selling goods.

Now, in the 21st century, the technology doubles itself with each passing years. The internet, a key to all that is in the world, is available to everyone effortlessly and quickly in their own homes. Television can show us what is going on in the world as well as entertaining us. We have become a super power in the world rather than just a small colony that broke free of tyranny. We can now take pride in our technologically advanced environment.

  9. What sparked the industrial growth was that many Americans were changing. With the creation of the cotton gin farming of cotten went a lot faster and smoother than it had before and the southern farms were able to to produce more cotten. In the north the industrial with the industrial growth items that were produced were made the same because before even though the items looked alike the were made differently.

If we did not have the technological changes we would still be living like we had before working on farms without the things that make the modern day modern. New York wood not have gotten running water and Boston would not have gotten plumbing which today even though we don't think about it are very important in our lives.

    What Causes Change?
The Industrial Revolution shaped the form of America today in many ways. It advanced the lack of transportation and brought economical growth into the United States. Romanticism played a large role in forming the nineteenth century.
A large technological change that has made a tremendous impact on the twenty-first century is transportation. It has advanced from horses and trains to smart cars and double stacked buses. The transportation in America will keep growing until vehicles fly.
