EMBRYONIC RESEARCH AND YOU
BY WESLEY LABARGE
As an effect of our great and intelligent minds, we came upwith the idea of using embryos to solve our health problems, but that became a big problem for many. They believe that weshould not take a life to save a life. We all know that ifthey were in the shoes of the ill that they would doeverything possible to keep from dying. So why not researchthis topic and gather information that could one day helpsave thousands or even millions?I strongly believe that not only as a country, but as aplanet we should go to the full extent of embryonicresearch. It would help our chances of survival for ages tocome and help those overcome their illnesses. For example,if someone were to have a bad vital organ that needed to bereplaced, it could easily be replaced with a stem grownreplica. Although many say that it is not of God’s willand that if you were meant to die at that time then you mustdie, then why did God bring the brilliant minds that came upwith this idea into the world?I hold the idea that everyone that is brought into thisworld has a purpose. Whether it is to play sports, savelives, become a teacher, or anything that happens in thisworld, it is for a reason. The scientists who researchedthis idea and found that this could actually be an answer toeveryone’s prayers were brought to this world for thatreason. They are doing everything in their power to savelives and do it with ease. When this way of saving lives came to be, many disputersthought that this cannot and will not be done for numerousreasons. One reason why was because they did not believe itwas right to take a life that could be in this world to saveanother, such as one of their own. I know for a fact that ifI were to have an incurable disease or illness that I wouldwant to do whatever it took to save my life, even if thatmeant using embryonic organs. In conclusion of this topic, embryonic research is a must ifwe plan to survive the next 2000 years. We also need to putaside the dispute over whether this is right or not becauseit must be for a reason. This type of research is verythorough and must be precise if we want to help peoplesurvive the numerous illnesses that are sure to plague us inthe future. Embryonic research must be done and quicklybefore it is too late. -- WESLEY LABARGE, Grade 10, Wetumpka High School
