1984 by George Orwell: What is doublethink?

For students whose names begin M- Z and are reading 1984:

The book 1984 by George Orwell presents a world in which language has been so short-cut and modified that it is no longer recognizable as standard English. In fact, standard English is called "Old Speak," and the new modified language is called Newspeak.

Find examples in the book that represent Newspeak. How are these used or misused? How does altering the language change its meaning both in the book and now?

  1. To know and not to know, to be conscious of truthfulness while telling lies, to hold two opinions (at the same time)that cancel each other out-- Doublethink is knowing that to be contradictory but believing in both lies. To tell deliberate lies while genuinly believing in them. It's like you dont call yourself a hypocrite while doing hypocrital things and u know that they are hypocritical.
