A Song of Life

By Eddie Rodriguez, Second Block

Born on a rainy day of October,
When the grass was dead and trees looked ill,
Now, it makes me happy and fills me with joy
to see the pastures run till they meet the horizon.
On a warm day with clear blue skies
where birds of all kinds freely fly,
revealing their presence.
It is because of the city --
the noise, the grime, the concrete gray --
that today
I've fallen in love with nature,
And after every rainy day, I can securely say
that there will be life where the water has washed.
This is more than a Song of Myself,
it's a Song of Celebration.
