School Improvements
As a student at Wetumpka High School, what are some changes that you would like to see? Remember, that with good writing, just as in science and math, you first need to "define the problem." Then clarify any points that you feel need discussion, and always, always, offer positive ways to suggest solutions. Remember, anyone can be negative. Suggesting solutions always requires more thought. The best of the posts could be published in the school newspaper, The Arrowhead, with your consent.

Growing, Wetumpka High School is too small to host an assembly that requires attendance of the entire student body. To have an assembly, students have to be separated by class to fit into the gym. Would it not be fantastic if we had a building that could accommodate everyone? I propose that Wetumpka High School build a performing arts center on the school campus. This would expunge some of the difficulties we currently have.
ReplyDeleteMost of the school’s extracurricular activities take place in the Commons area. The ROTC, Dance team, Band, and others compete to utilize the Commons as either a practice area or a performance stage. Some of them may not be able to schedule an event when they want it because so many people have to accommodate one location. If they had a larger facility, they could hold just one performance for everyone. Having a big and supportive audience makes a performance worth practicing for.
A performing arts center would house an assortment of events. This establishment would provide a large building to host dramatic plays, concerts, dance recitals, and assemblies. We, Wetumpka High School, could invite the younger students in Wetumpka to participate in some of these activities. Some of the activities could serve as fundraising events. The possibilities for the use of the center would be unlimited.
Imagine an enormous room with stadium style seats. Then picture a walkway slightly ramped toward a broad stage made complete with satin curtains. There is a balcony perched high above the rest of the cushioned seats that becomes the perfect location to spy on all the action below. The sound system and acoustics are sensational, letting the words and music flow through the air. This colossal space could be the end to our problems.
Now, I know you are most likely thinking that this is going to cost a lot of money. It will. No need to fret though, because we could use the stimulus money that President Obama has designated for school improvements. This money would benefit the school and furnish the construction workers with jobs. The construction workers would then use their paychecks to purchase commodities, therefore helping our economy recover.
I believe a major way to improve the school would be doing away with some much homework. Yes, sometimes homework will improve your grades, but other times teachers just do it because you make them angry. We already have seven hours of school, so why add more? I think if you overload students they will most likely give up because, it becomes way to much. Now giving a few practice problems as homework isn't to bad, but endless pages of work is not the way to go.
ReplyDeleteI understand how giving alot of homework might seem like its helping but, it's really not. Students have more then one class so when you begin packing on the homework in each class it makes it very hard to keep up with. Obviously we can't comepletely do away with homework but, we could surely improve it.
I believe one way to help homework would be to do away with the unessary problems. Another way would be for each and every teacher to write all the homework on the board so students could plan out what nights they will do what homework. Also, teachers could offer up fifteen minutes of each class to work on homework. Then students would have to opportunity to try and finish it during class. Those are some ways you could improve the heavy homework load. I promise getting done with school at three ten and then turning around and starting school, by doing homework, right back up for a few hours is not fun!
I think that there are many things that we could do to improve our school, but the one that is most prodominant in my mind is adding snack machines that the students have access to.I know that most teachers would complain about students eating in class, but think abot it,would you rather us sleep? We are in school eight hours a day and the only real meal we eat is lunch, which is not near enough to surfice throught the day.
ReplyDeleteI believe that there needs to be some improvements on school bathrooms. It is truly horrible how on the B hall bathroom you can't get any privacy while using the facilities because some people think it is funny to yank off all of the locks. It is also horrible how, in the commons the doors work, but the locks don't. This is one of the changes I wish to see in Wetumpka High School

ReplyDeleteWhat are some improvements to Wetumpka High School that could be accomplished. I think here at Wetumpka High School whatever we set our minds to we can do! There are many things that I am sure could have new and appropriate changes made to. First, we could help the janitors out with cleaning the bathrooms, because they are always a mess. Second, our school lunches could possibly be better than they are! And third, we could have a little more time for break. These are things that could be improved about my school. With all the help you can get, we can really make this happen!
First, we can always help the janitors out with cleaning the bathrooms. I hate walking into a unclean and stinky bathroom. I know it has to be hard cleaning a restroom after people come in and destroy the place! All the girls in my grade write all over the walls and it make it look plain junky. For some reason it seems like nobody knows how to keep a restroom clean anymore! If I was a janitor I would get so aggravated when people junk up the bathroom and make it messy. I think we should do our part and help keep the restroom clean and sanitary for everyone to use!
Second, our school lunches I would say could be a little bit better. I know it’s got to be frustrating for the lunch ladies to feed so many people in one day and make it good! The only thing is nobody really buys lunch anymore because it just doesn’t taste like real food, it doesn’t have salt or pepper! Maybe we should have a day like where we get food from a fast food restaurant, just one day out of the week! It doesn’t really phase me though because I bring my lunch, there is no way I am eating that gross food. This argument isn’t for me but for the others suffering though this.
Third, we should have a little more time for break. Just like everyone else, I love break. It seems like by the time you buy break and sit down it is time to go. I think our break is like ten minutes long, but it seems like five or less! After sitting in a classroom for so long we start to loose concentration and focus on our work! So if we had longer break, you never know it might increase our grades!
Well here are suggestions for new improvements to be made to our school. I fully believe if these were done they would have a tremendous effect on Wetumpka High School. Here are my improvements just in case you forgot them! First, we could help the janitors keep the restrooms clean. Second, our school lunches could be better. And third, we should definitely have more time for break! I hope you take these into consideration when you think about new improvements to be made at Wetumpka High School!
